I grew up in Chillicothe, Ohio, and still think the Scioto River valley is the most beautiful place on earth. I earned an AB in History from Harvard College, where I was a member of Pforzheimer House and wrote a senior thesis about Brattle Street in Cambridge. After working in a small museum for a year, I headed to the University of Virginia for a MA and PhD in History. While there, I was a member of the Early American Seminar, attended architectural history field school in Falmouth, Jamaica, and interned with Montpelier's African American Descendants' Project.
I'm thankful for the numerous fellowships that have supported my research. These have included extended stays at the McNeil Center for Early American Studies at UPenn, the National Museum of American History, the American Antiquarian Society, and the Clements Library at Michigan. |

From 2017 to 2021, I served as co-editor of book reviews for the Journal of the Early Republic. I currently serve as Chairperson of the Advisory Council for the McNeil Center for Early American Studies and co-coordinator of the Second Book Writers' Workshop for the Society for Historians of the Early American Republic.
Recently, my curiosity has led me to graduate coursework in non-profit management. In my free time, you'll find me outdoors or volunteering in my neighborhood in West Philadelphia.
